Lakeview United Church received funding from the Federal New Horizons Seniors Grant Program for 2025/2026 to offer two previously run programs again. Both programs were very popular, filled up quickly and received positive feedback from attendees. Seniors, ages 55+ are eligible to attend.
The Computer Literacy program was offered in May/June, 2025 with twenty seniors attending. Topics included learning how to use a computer, what is the Internet & how to use it safely, online socializing, banking, shopping & gaming apps, how to avoid financial & online scams and basic cellphone knowledge & skills.
The Seniors – Planning Ahead program was held in September, 2025 with thirty seniors attending. Over the past 18 months, a total of 126 seniors have participated in this program. Topics included wills & estate planning, power of attorney, advance care planning, options for end of life care, estate taxes, role of the executor, funerals and grief & bereavement. This program will be offered again in Feb/March, 2026.

Lakeview has submitted a proposal to the Federal New Horizons Seniors Grant Program for funding for 2026/2027 to continue to offer the Seniors – Planning Ahead program. We will not find out if this proposal has been approved until February, 2026.
